YEATESVILLE Calvin Cox buried a triple with five seconds to play, leading the Northside Panthers to a 48-46 win over the Perquimans Pirates in Fridays Four Rivers Conference battle.
Taylor Woolard had missed inside with 10 seconds to play, but the ball kicked out to Cox. He calmly eyed the basket and buried the shot to give Northside (4-4, 1-1) the win.
We finally made the plays, Northside coach Mike Proctor said. Weve been working really, really hard all year, but we havent been getting the ball to fall and we havent been making the plays. Tonight, down the stretch, we made the plays.
Cox finished with a game-high 18 points. Damount Harvey added 11 for the Panthers.
Perquimans (3-5, 1-1), which missed a desperation shot at the buzzer, got 14 points from Shaleek Shellbee.
Woolards 3-pointer gave Northside a 22-19 halftime lead, and the Panthers clung to that three-point lead (36-33) heading into the final quarter.
Nate Downings three-point play gave the Pirates a 42-40 lead.
Northside reclaimed the lead, 45-44, when Harvey hit a scoop shot with 55 seconds remaining. Mike Frierson got inside for a layup for the Pirates, giving them a 46-45 advantage with 30 seconds left.
Cox then nailed the game-winner for the Panthers.
Isaiah McCullor added nine points for Northside, while Woolard had five, Nathan Cahoon three and Dee Martin two.
Rodney Privott had nine for Perquimans, while Frierson added eight, Carlin Elliott and Downing five apiece, Bryan White three and Jewell Spellman two.
