PITTSBORO, N.C. — Bettie Lou Matkins, age 70, passed away Sunday December 27, 2009 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C. Born November 3, 1939 in Washington to Sam and Cora Matkins, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Jeff Carmines of Durham, N.C., her daughter Lisa Jackson of Gloucester, VA., three grand daughters Chelsea, Holly and Rilee Jackson of Gloucester, Va.; her sister Judy Matkins Waddell (Ronnie) of Chesterfield, VA. and her former husband and friend Bobby Carmines of Pittsboro.
Bettie Lou was a retired social worker having worked both in VA. and N.C. A private memorial service and interment will be held at a later date in Washington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Felicite  LaTane Animal Sanctuary 6311 Niks Road, Mevane, North Carolina 27302.
