Capt. Roley J. Wesley, age 85, a resident of 160 Wheelhouse Court, Pamlico Plantation, Washington, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at his home.
Graveside services with Masonic rites will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery, conducted by Steve Hill.
Capt. Wesley was born in Oklahoma on October 16, 1924. He was the son of the late John Wesley and Neva Buckner Wesley. Capt. Wesley served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps during World War II. He was a Maritime Master. He was a Sea captain prior to working in the Panama Canal Zone. Capt. Wesley retired as a Panama Canal Pilot with 29 years of service. After his retirement, he mastered supertankers of Phillips 66. Capt. Wesley was a member of the Balboa Canal Zone Masonic Lodge. He was a Shriner and an animal lover. Capt. Wesley was a citizen of the Creek Nation and was a strong supporter of the Creek Nation schools.
Capt. Wesley was married to the former Gertrude Evelyn Thompson, who preceded him in death, April 26, 2005.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Wesley and wife, Susan of Germany and their sons, Nathan and Chris, a daughter, Barbara Taylor and husband, Tom of Baltimore, MD and their son, Jason, a son, Mark Wesley of Washington and his son, Matthew and his daughter, Jami.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the their home.
