Mr. James Moore Fleming, age 69, a resident of 807 East Eighth Street, Washington, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2010 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Johnnie L. Houston, Sr. officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until the service hour and other times at the home.
Mr. Fleming was born in Pitt County on February 11, 1940 to Curtis and Annie Little Fleming. On April 26, 1970 he married Martha Purifoy Fleming who survives. He had been a member of Moose Lodge #1800 for 30 years and was a member of Unity Church, River Road. James, who was known as TOOT TOOT to his family and friends, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four daughters, Gloria Moore and husband Danny of Chocowinity, Sandra Houston and husband Johnnie, Sr. of Blounts Creek, Dottie Mayo and husband Jesse of Grimesland and Connie Williams of Pitt County; daughter-in-law, Alice Purifoy of Washington; five sisters, Janet Morton and husband Jason of Raleigh, Linda Steed of Raleigh, Julia Seymour of Greenville, Betsy Fleming of Greenville and Bertha Viccaro of Washington; eight grandchildren, Laura Franklin and husband Joe, April Schmidt and husband Shane, Johnnie Houston, Jr. and wife Nikki, Mindy Rice and husband Brendan, Monica Fulford and husband Clifton, Bobbie Jo Ricks and husband Stuart and Macon and Mark Harris; and seventeen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parent he was preceded in death by sons James F. Purifoy and Noah S. Purifoy; great grandson Jacob Rice; and brothers Joseph Fleming and Curtis Fleming, Jr.
