Pirates in trouble|Football players arrested, basketball players suspended

GREENVILLE — Two East Carolina football players were arrested last weekend.
According to court records, Emanuel Davis and running back Brandon Jackson have court dates next month to face charges.
Davis, a cornerback, was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of alcohol under the age of 21.
Jackson, a running back, was charged with being intoxicated and disruptive, resisting public officer, consuming alcohol by someone under 21, driving after consuming under the age of 21 and DWI.
Jackson, according to the court record, “unlawfully and willfully did appear intoxicated in a public place, the parking lot, Stratford Arms Apartments” on South Charles Boulevard on Jan. 10 and “was disruptive in that the defendant did curse, shout at and rudely insult others.”
It also indicates Jackson “unlawfully and willfully did resist, delay and obstruct” a public officer by “refusing to comply with a lawful command to be quiet and quit interfering with his investigation.”
Davis was a starting defensive back for the Pirates. Jackson played an integral part in the running game early last season.
BASKETBALL
East Carolina sophomore forward Darrius Morrow and freshman guard Wakefield Ellison have been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, according to an announcement from head basketball coach Mack McCarthy Wednesday afternoon.
Morrow, who currently leads the Pirates in rebounding with a 6.7 average and adds 12.4 points a game, has started all 16 games this season. Ellison has played in 10 contests off the bench and currently owns a 1.4 scoring and a 0.5 rebounding average.
“Darrius and Wakefield have been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules,” McCarthy said. The third-year ECU head coach did not address specifics of the suspension, but added “there are conduct standards we have in place and expect those to be followed.”
