Mr. Leon “Hooky” Simpkins, Jr., age 44, a resident of 313 South Grimesland Bridge Road, Grimesland, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 as a result of injuries received in a boating accident.
A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Mr. Simpkins was born in Pitt County on October 29, 1965 to Leon and Dorothy Rouse Simpkins. “Hooky” graduated from Washington High School in 1984 and later graduated from Beaufort Community College. He worked as a Service Technician for Jeffery’s Manufacturing. “Hooky” had a tremendous love for the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time skiing on the Tar and Pamlico Rivers, riding motorcycles and hunting. “Hooky” loved animals especially his dog, Nitro. His family and many friends were very important to “Hooky”.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Rebecca Barr Simpkins of Grimesland; his brother, Dallas “Herbie” Simpkins and wife Ashley of Raleigh; his sister, Jessica Simpkins Sikes and husband Gary of Wilmington; four nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Ronald McDonald House, 529 Moye Boulevard, Greenville, NC 27834 or to the charity of ones choice.
