Mary Helen Kilby High, wonderful wife, loving mother and ever-smiling friend, passed away at Beaufort County Hospital on February 1, 2010, one week shy of her 79th birthday. She was born in Beaufort County on February 8, 1931, to the late Jay Kilby and Margaret Jones Kilby of Bayview.
She graduated from Bath High School in 1949 and attended East Carolina Teachers College. In 1951 she married George Thomas Sonny High, who survives. They lived in Louisburg and Chapel Hill before retiring to Bath in 1989.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Tom, and wife Beth High of Carrboro and Jay, and wife Janie High of Prescott Valley, AZ; three grandchildren, Georgia and Evan High of Carrboro and Jeremiah High of Prescott Valley; two sisters, Peggy Kilby Davis and Ann Kilby Bertram both of Bath; one special niece, Margaret Ann Woolard of Washington; and two nephews, Walt Davis of Greenville and Ian Bertram of Clayton.
Mary Helen loved to cook and share her food with neighbors, friends and the needy. She was a member of Bath Christian Church.
A private burial will be held. In home visitation will be held from 1- 4 p.m. at 484 Kirby Grange Ave, Bath, NC, on February 13, 2010.
