Mrs. Mary Ann Helms Patterson, age 71, a resident of 541 South Sixth Street, Aurora, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday February 8, 2010 at White Hill Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Wesley Taylor. Burial will follow in the Sandy Grove Primitive Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Etles A. Henries, Jr., E. H. Phelps, Harvey Swain, Kevin Patterson, Kevin Rawls and Jason Foreman will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Patterson was born in Union County, NC on May 17, 1938 daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Helms. She had worked as a licensed practical nurse until her retirement. On December 22, 1996, she married Maechel O. Patterson, who survives. Mrs. Patterson was a member of the White Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband Mrs. Patterson is survived by; three sons, Colon Edward Culley of Grovetown, GA, Ronald Steven Culley of Augusta, GA., Roy Adam Culley of North Augusta, S.C.; three daughters, Margie Diane White of Augusta, GA., Patsy Ella Riley of Eden, N.C., Mary Frances Pileggi of Appling, GA.; two stepdaughters, Gail Phelps of Aurora and Michele Jones of Aurora; two stepsons, Kevin Patterson of Aurora; one sister, Mable Aldridge of Monroe, N.C.; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by a son, Hoyle Lee Culley; a sister, Mildred Pressley and three brothers, Roy Helms, Clayton Helms and Paul Helms.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 8, 2010 from 1:30 until the funeral hour at White Hill Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home located at 541 South Sixth Street, Aurora, NC.
