Barbara Ann Wallace of 306 Carteret Street, Bath, NC passed away February 10, 2010 at her home following a courageous fight with cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with The Rev. Jack Rivers officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Ms. Wallace was born January 4, 1938 in Beaufort County. Her parents were the late William “Bill” Wallace and Louise Waters Wallace. Ms. Wallace graduated from Bath High School in 1956. She graduated from California State University at Los Angeles with a degree in Social Studies. She also attended Beaufort Community College and UNC at Chapel Hill. She was employed with the United Airlines in New York and California. Returning to Bath in the early 90’s Ms. Wallace became active in St. Thomas Church and the community, serving on the boards of the Historic Bath Foundation, Historic Bath Commission, Co-Chair of the Historic Bath Tricentennial Celebration, and as Mayor of Bath for eight years. She was employed as Administrative Assistant at the Pungo District Hospital and the Senior Center in Washington.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Marie Jones, sister-in-law Mary C. Wallace and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Wallace was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Swindell Wallace and William Purvis Wallace.
