Lanier leads Tigers past Redskins|Season over for Pam Pack boys

Ramelle Lanier pumped in a career-high 31 points, leading the Williamston Tigers to a 94-69 victory over the Roanoke Redskins in Tuesday’s Four Rivers Conference Tournament play.
The sophomore helped the Tigers (14-10), the No. 3 seed, advance to the second round against either No. 2 seed Camden or No. 7 seed Southside. That second-round game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Perquimans High School.
K.J. Brown also had a huge night for Williamston as he poured in 26 points and dished out six assists. Kiyon Coffield chipped in with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
“I thought we shared the basketball extremely well,” Williamston coach Bobby Williams said. “We came out with some energy and got up 10-0.
“We had 34 points in the second quarter and had a nice run there.”
Roanoke was led by Aaron Baker, who had a game-high 39 points. The senior converted on 23 of 26 from the free throw line.
Season over for Pack
Washington’s basketball season came to a close in Monday’s first round of the Coastal Conference Tournament. The Pam Pack (6-18) fell 65-47 to D.H. Conley.
The Vikings used a 14-1 run to take a 33-15 lead at halftime.
Lindsey Harris buried a triple to pull the Pack within 10, 46-36, early in the fourth quarter. However, the Vikings responded with a 15-2 spurt to pull away.
Taraja Langley paced Washington with 17 points. Brandon Tripp added 16 points. Ridge Hodges chipped in with eight points, while Harris and Keane Graham scored three apiece.
Sam Best led Conley with 25 points.
Lakers top Bears
Kenya Spencer erupted for 28 points to lead the Mattamuskeet Lakers to a 51-38 victory over Bear Grass in Tuesday’s Tideland Conference Tournament action.
Mattamuskeet will face the winner between Creswell and Ocracoke in Thursday’s second-round play.
Olivia Peaks scored 12 points to pace the Bears.
