Mr. Stewart Edward Woolard, age 80, a resident of 1747 John Small Ave., Washington, NC 27889 died Wednesday afternoon February 17, 2010 at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday February 20, 2010 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, officiated by Pastor Kevin Woolard. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Eddie Congleton, Gene Paul Edwards, Travis Sadler, Mike Askew, Tim Askew and Gerald Cameron will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on September 28, 1929, son of the late Jatha Gray Woolard and Gertrude Pinkham Woolard. On May 20, 1955, he married the former Louise Daniels who survives. He was in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. Mr. Woolard retired from the NC Department of Transportation after 28 years service in the bridge maintenance department where he was a supervisor. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington where he served on the Board of Trustees, and past Sunday School teacher.
In addition to his wife, Louise Woolard of the home; he is survived by his son: Gary Woolard and his wife, Colleen of Elizabeth City; his daughter: Lucinda Squires and husband, Monk of Washington; his grandson: Nicholas Woolard of Elizabeth City; his sister: Lola Gardner of New Bern; and his brother: Steve Woolard of Arden, NC. He is preceded in death by two sisters: Daisy Woolard and Norris Askew and two brothers: Ernest Woolard and Jerry Woolard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
