Mr. Clifton Lee Hales, Sr., age 74, a resident of 1304 Nicholson Street, Washington, NC died Sunday February 28, 2010 at his home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday March 4, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington officiated by Ray West.
Mr. Hales was born in Craven County on September 4, 1935 son of the late Walter Lee Hales and Alice Pearl Godley Hales. He was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and later went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hales worked for many years in Heavy Equipment Management retiring from Pioneer Machinery. On January 11, 1957 he married the former Valdean Cox, who preceded him in death on January 22, 2001. Mr. Hales was a member of the D.A.V. and the V.F.W. He was also a member of First Church of Christ of Washington.
Mr. Hales is survived by two children: Donna H. Thompson and husband Harry and Cliff Hales and wife Jen all of Washington, five grandchildren: Trey Wainwright, Holly Wainwright, Caitlin Hales, Cierra Hales and Cameryn Hales, four great grandchildren: Damian Brimmer, Zoey Wainwright, Ian Wainwright and Colton Wainwright.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 3, 2010 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at First Church of Christ Sanctuary, 520 East 10th Street, Washington, NC and other times at the home located at 1304 Nicholson Street Washington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ, 520 E. 10th Street Washington, NC 27889 or the Beaufort County Chapter Relay for Life, C/O Lisa Alligood 7581 Broad Creek Road Washington, NC 27889.
