Leslie Ann Mathis Gray, age 56, of 105 Landon Drive, Washington, NC died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at her home.
She was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on September 20, 1953 to the late Dr. James L. and Ann Kim Mathis. Leslie graduated from Huguenot High School in Richmond, Virginia and attended Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a loving, caring, and compassionate family member, a kind friend and neighbor to many, and lived her life to the fullest. She was a gourmet cook, artist, avid gardener, loving caretaker to all animals, enjoyed travel and never met a stranger. Leslie had a tremendous sense of humor and her capacity for love was endless. She found the good in all.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Robert L. “Bad Bob” Gray; brother Jeffrey L. Mathis and wife Diane of Grimesland; sisters Linda M. Blakeley of Belhaven, Lynn W. Mathis of New Hope, Robin D. Harris of Hertford and Karen S. Mathis of Greenville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mark A. Mathis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that extend from coast to coast and were proud to call her “Evil Auntie Leslie”, her faithful dogs Chila and Weedeater, and many, many special friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that each of you plant something special in your yard that will remind you of Leslie and the beauty of life.
A celebration of her life will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service.
