PINK HILL — Mary Elizabeth Hodges Watson, 85, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Britthaven of Kinston. Libby was the wife of the late Charles Watson of Washington, NC. Libby was a native of Washington, NC, but lived most of her adult life in Kinston and Pink Hill. She was the daughter of Thad and Virginia Hodges of Washington and is an alumnus of Washington High School and Louisburg College. She was an active member of Southwood Christian Church and the Pink Hill United Methodist Church. Libby retired from the Lenoir County Department of Social Services. Libby enjoyed cooking and sewing, her friends and family. She contributed much of her time to her church, the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls, and civic activities including the Pink Hill Business and Professional Association and the Pink Hill Christmas Parade.
Libby is survived by her son, Charles Watson and wife Betty Watson of Kinston; three granddaughters, Marybeth Terry and husband Chad of Kinston, Sarah Lynch and husband Brad of Kernersville, and Heather Rouse and husband Cliff of Kinston; two great-granddaughters, Reagan Rouse and Laura Terry, both of Kinston; two sisters, Marian Sloan of Washington, NC and Jean Waters of Germanton, NC and many cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Watson and a son, David Watson and a sister, Virginia Gerard of Washington, NC.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Pink Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Grider and Rev. Clark Barfield officiating. Visitation will be held immediately following the service in the church. Saturday evening a graveside service will be at 4 p.m. in Washington at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Charles and Betty Watson, 3308 Quail Ridge Road, Kinston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pink Hill United Methodist Church, 102 W. Walnut Street, Pink Hill, NC 28572. Arrangements are with Pink Hill Funeral Home.
