Mr. Gaylon Aaron Jones, age 90, a resident of 8947 Old Sand Hill Road, Aurora, N.C., died July 8, 2010 at Britthaven of Pamlico in Grantsboro.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Sunday July 11, 2010 at Cuthrell Cemetery, Old Sand Hill Road, Aurora, conducted by Dr. Robert Cayton.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Carl Cayton, Framan Edwards, Kevin Bonner, Don Franklin, Wayne Hollister, and Roger Barber.
Mr. Jones was born in Pamlico County on August 13, 1919. He was the son of the late Tom Jones and Carlie Sadler Jones. Mr. Jones was a retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Jones was a member of the American Legion for 31 years. He was a member of the Aurora V.F.W. Post #9492 and the New Bern Bowling Leagues for many years. Mr. Jones was a member of White Hill Free Will Baptist Church and attended Mary's Chapel Christian Church.
On December 26, 1975, Mr. Jones married the former Edna Daniels (Walker), who preceded him in death, September 3, 2002.
Mr. Jones is survived by three daughters, Ann Walker Hudson, Peggy Walker Cayton and husband, Darrell B. Cayton, Sr., Amarette Walker Mayo all of Aurora; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Morgan, William David Traub, Darrell Cayton, Jr., Joyce Cayton Philbeck, Drucilla M. Johnson, Sadie M. Hopkins, Beadie M. Sullivan, William McKinney; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a son in law, Robert Glenn Mayo and step father, Jamie Lamm.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home located at 8947 Old Sand Hill Road, Aurora.
