Dr. Roberta Reeve Nichols

Roberta Reeve Nichols, 66, of Chocowinity, NC died July 11, 2010 at home. She was the wife of Lee V. Nichols.
Born in Ware, MA on July 12, 1943 to the late Mabel (Glatz) and George E. Reeve. Roberta graduated from North Brookfield High School, North Brookfield, MA, in 1961, the University of Connecticut in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in the College of Agriculture, the University of Hartford in 1970 with a Masters in the Art of Teaching, and the University of Massachusetts in 1975 with a Doctorate in Reproductive Physiology.
After several years working as a research assistant in cardiovascular and reproductive research, Roberta started her teaching career at Rockville High School, Vernon, CT and continued her professional teaching career at Springfield Technical Community College, Springfield, MA. During her 32 years as Professor of Anatomy/Physiology and Biochemistry, she served as Department Chairperson, as well as, numerous department and college-wide committees. Her dedication to improving the quality of Science Education at STCC resulted in many National and State teaching and leadership awards, as well as, Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award and the J.J. Deliso Endowed Chair at STCC.
Roberta was an avid reader and had a passion for gardening. She was an active member of the Washington, NC Garden Club. She enjoyed living near the water, boating, RVing, and her many furniture and boat restoration projects.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Lee, of 44 years. In addition to many great friends and neighbors, a sister, JoAnn Andrews and her husband Robert of East Longmeadow, MA, a brother, George Reeve of East Brookfield, MA, a sister-in-law, Kathy Nichols and her husband George Perkins of Chocowinity, NC, her adopted grandchildren, Aiden and Rachel Toepher of Monson, MA, several nieces, a nephew, cousins and her faithful Border Collie companions, Kylie and Briar.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 491 Island Drive, Chocowinity, NC and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the home of Rene Duval, 143 Wilbraham Road in Springfield, MA.
