BEAR GRASS — Jean Phelps Cowin, 72, of 1455 Cowin Road, Bear Grass died Tuesday July 27, 2010 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Mrs Cowin is preceded in death by parents, Joe and Doris Phelps of Bear Grass, sister Dean Phelps Hartsfield of Atlanta GA, and daughter Cynthia Walker. Mrs Cowin is survived by husband Ben Simon Cowin, brother William Thomas Phelps and wife Becky of Camden NC, sons Ben Sheppard and fianceé Tracey Wynne, Thomas Clayton and wife Johnna, daughter Dana Manning and husband Ray, Grandchildren Jonathan Cowin, Megan Haislip and husband Jason, Lauren Cowin, Jason Cowin and Taylor Manning.
“Mama Jean” was most recently an employee of Piggly Wiggly of Williamston. She was loved and will be dearly missed by her family, and church friends. She will always be remembered for her outgoing personality and dedication to helping others.
Funeral services will be held at Rose of Sharon Original Free Will Baptist Church in Bear Grass at 11 a.m. on Friday July 30, 2010. Burial will follow at the Cowin Cemetery at 1455 Cowin Road across from the home. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.
