Harriet Zelota Harrington, 95, of 2491 Bayview Road, Bath, NC died Friday August 13, 2010 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Born on March 29, 1915, in Pitt County in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Harriet Brown and J. Frederick Jerome McGlohon. She was a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.
She attended Renston School and Ayden High School in Ayden, North Carolina. After graduating as salutatorian of Ayden High School in 1932, she then attended and graduated in 1936 from Womans College in Greensboro with a B.S. degree in elementary education. For many years she was a homemaker and managed her farm. Returning to college in 1966, she earned a Library Science degree from East Carolina University, and then served as librarian of South Lenoir High School.
In 1936 she married James Edwin Harrington, who predeceased her in death in 1968. She was also predeceased by her parents; her two younger brothers, Frederick Gray McGlohon and Ira J. McGlohon; her son, Edwin Jerome Harrington; and a grandson, Captain Anthony Wiley Stancil.
Survivors include daughter, Brownie H. Stancil and husband George of Bath, NC; grandson, Dr. Scott Stancil and wife Daniale of Winterville, NC; great-grandchildren, Seth Wiley Stancil, Todd Edward Stancil and Brooke Elaine Stancil of Winterville, NC; niece, Harriet Nelson and nephew, Lawrence McGlohon of Ayden.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in the Chapel of Farmers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ayden Cemetery. Wayne Stancil, William Earl Brown, Lawrence McGlohon, Randy Nelson, Casey Edwards, Seth Stancil, Todd Stancil, Ed Robson and Chad Robson will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Farmers Funeral Home in Ayden.
