The Little Washington Sailing Club had not just one new sailing student come from Germany to sail with the school, but as well as two young sailors from Pennsylvania that come down every summer to spend with family.
Kathy Farrances grandsons wanted to spend the summer learning about sailing in Washington and couldnt wait to set sail in the Pamlico River.
She said there have not only been locals signing up for the sailing program, but kids from other parts of the country and other countries as well. One being from Germany, but was unavailable for comment.
Weve been coming here to Washington every summer for the past few years, Jazz Ritter said. And weve enjoyed every bit of it. Its a nice town and weve seen it grow over the years, a lot.
Sailings a lot of fun and Im just glad we were able to come down and do it here.
The Little Washington Sailing Club is a two-week sailing program designed to instill assertiveness into young sailors, ages 10 to 18. The instructors have said the lessons the students learn are not just geared towards sailing, but in all walks of life.
Our grandmother was the one who paid for us to come out and take the sailing course, Jazz said. And weve been out here every day since we started two weeks ago. Its just so much fun.
Jazz, 14, added that he and his brother, Chris, 12, will be leaving to go back to Pennsylvania today after the sailing class has come to an end.
It takes about seven or eight hours to drive back home (Pennsylvania), he said. Then after that, then well rest, he said with a smile. But its been a great summer.
As the sailing lessons for the Little Washington Sailing Club end today, this last class of sailing students will take full advantage of every second of the day and every gust of wind that comes their way.
The next season begins next summer. And if parents are interested in signing their kids up for the sailing program next year they can get in touch with the Little Washington Sailing Club online at www.washingtononthewater.com/lilwashsailingclub.html and even take advantage of a sailing scholarship for kids.
