Irene Wilkins Squires Kerns, 93, of 108 Sunny Acres Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at W.R. Winslow Memorial Home. Born in Beaufort County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Albert L. and Freelove Daniels Wilkins and was the wife of the late James Brantley Squires and the late Michael Kerns. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Mrs. Kerns is survived by her daughter, Alma S. Gregory and husband Linwood of Elizabeth City, NC; sons, Tim Squires of Raleigh, NC and James E. Squires and wife Janice of New Bern, NC; six grandchildren and four step grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Macon L. Squires; and her daughter-in-law, Annabell Cartwright Squires.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Belhaven Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at all other times at the residence of the daughter, Alma Gregory, 904 Riverside Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC.
