MOUNT OLIVE Glenn Stuart Weaver died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Wayne County on June 16, 1926, he was the first child of Gertha and Clara Denning Weaver of Grantham.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, October 24, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, Goldsboro and interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. Dr. Jerry Burton of Mill Creek Christian Church will officiate with Dr. Michael Price of First Christian Church in Washington and Ray Briley assisting. The family will receive friends Sunday at Seymour Funeral Home starting at 2:30 p.m.
Dr. Weaver had a 40 year career with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from 1951 to 1991. He pastored four churches in forty years: Logan County Unity Christian Churches (three churches) in Kentucky; West Side Christian Church in Portsmouth, Virginia; First Christian Church of Bluefield, West Virginia; and First Christian Church of Washington, NC where he retired in 1991 after 18 1⁄2 years, the record in pastor tenure for that church. He was at different times president of the Christian Church in West Virginia, on the board of trustees of his old Alma Mater, Atlantic Christian College (Barton College) and a member of the General Board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for six years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Anderson Weaver, parents, Gertha and Clara Weaver; and brothers, Howard Wright Weaver and Ralph Weaver.
Surviving are one son, Stuart Wright Weaver; two sisters, Doris Weaver and Hazel W. Ballard; and brothers, Donald, Carl, Roy, James, Charles and Russell Weaver. In addition, he leaves a caring sister-in-law, Cleo Anderson Grady.
