Mr. William “Bill” Roger Kempton, age 79, a resident of 73 Greenville Avenue, Washington died Saturday October 30, 2010 at the Sterling House in Greenville.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday November 2, 2010 at Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville officiated by Rev. Danny Barrow and Rev. Mike Carper.
Mr. Kempton was born in Scioto County, Ohio on July 21, 1931, son of the late Roger Harold Kempton and Louise Pearl Titus Kempton. He was employed with the Ohio State Department of Corrections for 16 years and with the N.C. Department of Corrections for 20 years as a correctional program assistant. On November 25, 1969, he married the former Karen Sue McManus Carper who survives. He was a member of the Beaufort County Local Chapter # 48 of Disabled Veterans.
In addition to his wife, Karen of the home, he is survived by his daughters: Angela Cowan and husband Jimmy of Farmville, Kimberly Kempton and Sherry Lynn Kempton both of Columbus, Ohio; his sons: Darren Kempton of Columbus, Ohio, Mike Carper and wife Kim of Shelby, NC and Bryan Kempton and wife Rhonda of Washington; his sisters: Deloris Zurkle and Janet Hitte both of Portsmouth, Ohio; his brother: Norman Kempton of Ohio and his grandchildren: Justin Carper, Ryan Carper, Caroline Carper, Jessica Lauren Carper, Jonathon Cowan, Ellen Cowan, Jameson Cowan, Byranna Kempton and Brynlee Kempton. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Kempton, and his sister, Nancy Kempton.
The family will receive friends following the service.
