The Vikings are headed to the East Regional Round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs for the second time in four years as Plymouth knocked off Manteo 36-32 on Friday in the Sectional Round of the playoffs.
The third-seeded Vikings (13-1) fell to No. 1 Manteo 20-14 late in the regular season, but got their revenge last night as they rallied from 32-29 fourth quarter deficit and took the lead when Devonte Bland ripped off a 29-yard touchdown run.
Bland had a big day as he rushed for 140 yards to tie teammate Ronnell Blount for a team-high. Blount scored twice as he ran for a TD and caught a TD pass from Akeem Cooper, who was 2-3 on the day with a rushing touchdown.
Running back Dylan Watts chipped in a score and a two-point conversion to go along with his 43 rushing yards for Plymouth.
The Vikings ended the first quarter tied with the Redskins at 7-7, but scored 22 points in the second quarter to go into the break up 29-13.
Manteo answered with a big third quarter as it went on a 19-0 run to hold a 32-29 lead with eight minutes to go. However, when Bland busted through the end zone from 29 yards out he sealed the deal and sent Plymouth into the East Regional Round of the playoffs where it will face the No. 1 ranked 1-A team in the state in Wallace Rose Hill.
