Jayhew Langley Roberson, age 89, a resident of Ridgewood Manor, Washington, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at Oakdale Cemetery by Dr. Michael Price and Bud Ball. Keith Roberson, Stanley Dixon, Bryan Cherry, Michael Wetherington, Ted Wallace and Bud Ball will serve as pallbearers. Vernon Canady will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Roberson was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 18, 1921 to the late Moses William and Dora Alligood Roberson. He was a graduate of Washington High School and was honored to serve in the United States Navy. On April 17, 1948, he married Alice Frances Woolard who preceded him in death on June 12, 2002. Mr. Roberson worked as a school bus mechanic with the Beaufort County School System for 33 years where he retired in 1980. He was a member of the First Christian Church, and its Mens Bible Class, D.A.V., Woodmen of the World, VFW and the CBH Lodge.
Survivors include daughter Jonita R. Dixon and husband, Phillip, of Washington; son Joseph Roberson and wife, Leah, of Endicott, NY; five grandchildren, Sharon R. Morrison and husband, Richard, of Jacksonville, FL, Keith Roberson and wife, Amy, of Tampa, FL, Stanley Dixon and wife, Meredith, of Washington, Laura D. Wetherington and husband, Michael, of Washington, Pamela Dixon and fiancé, Bryan Cherry, of Washington; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Morrison, Kayla, Lindsey, Joseph and Kendall Roberson, Nolan and Avery Dixon and one brother-in-law and special friend, Vernon Canady.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home of Phillip and Jonita Dixon, 2679 Slatestone Road, Washington.
