Mr. Earl Wayne Bonner, J r., age 84, a
resident of 1318 Bonnerton Road, Aurora,
N.C., died at home on Wedn esday, Dec.
15, 2010.
A funeral service will be h eld at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec.
19, 2010, at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Wa shington
officiated by Rev. John W. Yount. Burial will follow
in Oakdale Cemetery with Masonic Rites officiated
by Charles Wethington.
Wayne Sawyer, Marvin Sartin, Gene Williamson,
Garland Lewis, Charles Smith and Lew is Leaming will
serve as pallbearers. Jeffrey W. Sawyer, Doug Niethammer,
Andy Dixon, S id Cayton, Ken Sadler and Zack
Mixon will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Bonner was born in Beaufort Coun ty on July 1,
1926, s on of the late Earl Wayne Bonner, Sr. and Edn a
Hope Hardy Bonner. He was a graduate of Aurora High
School and graduated from Louisburg College and N.C.
State University. M r. Bonner served his country in the
United States Navy as a Seabee. On June 14, 1951, he
married the former Helen Gray Ayscue, who survives.
Mr. Bonner was an engine er with the N.C. Department
of Transportation, Directo r of Public Works with
the City of Washington and retired as the County Engineer
of Beaufort County. He was a member of Auror a
United Methodist Church, Mason ic Lodge of Aurora
#300. He was a 32nd Degree Scott ish Rite, Shriner and
one of the original Roadrunners.
Mr. Bonner was an avid hunter, pilot and friend to all.
He received the prestigious Wright Brothers Master
Pilot Award in 2008.
In addition to his wife, Helen of the home, he is
survived by his son: Carl F. Bonner and wife, Julia, of
Wilson, his brother: Billy Bonner and wife, Dorothy, of
Edward; his sister: Loyce Moore o f New Bern and two
grandch ildren: Dantzl er Bon ner and Kelcey Bonner
and other extended family.
The family will receive friend s from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday at Paul Funeral Home of Washington a nd
other times at the home.
