Four members of the Beaufort County Board of Education, including board newcomer Terry Williams, took the oath of office in a brief ceremony Monday night.
In November, Williams, of Chocowinity, defeated Revondia Harvey Barrow for a seat on the board. He represents District 4. Williams succeeds William S. Warren, who chose not to seek re-election.
Williams’ campaign focused on bringing “common sense” to the board and emphasized his business experience during campaign interviews.
Williams joined incumbents Teressa Banks, E.C. Peed and Cindy Winstead, who were re-elected in November, in taking the oath of office.
They join Robert Belcher, Eltha S. Booth, F. Mac Hodges, Mike Isbell and Barbara Boyd-Williams on the board. Those five members face re-election in two years.
In related business, the board unanimously re-elected Belcher as its chairman and Hodges as its vice chairman.
Belcher announced that Peed will replace Warren as chairman of the board’s Building, Grounds and Finance Committee, and he appointed Terry Williams to that committee.
