Mr. Melvin Grey Gibbs, age 75, a resident of 644 East Main Street, Belhaven died Thursday December 30, 2010 at University Health Care Hospice.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday January 1, 2011 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven officiated by Bob Beltz. Burial will follow in the Belhaven Community Cemetery with full Masonic Rites.
Mr. Gibbs was born in Beaufort County on December 9, 1935, son of the late Floyd Earl Gibbs and Reggie Louise Bowden Gibbs. He was a graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School and retired from PCS (formerly TexasGulf) in 1992 as an Operations Foreman. He was a member of West Belhaven Church of Christ, Belhaven Fire and Rescue, NC Wildlife Guild and was Lodge Master for two years with the Masons. On September 3, 1955, he married the former Mary Dallas Chambers who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mary, of the home, he is survived by his children, Melvin G. Gibbs, Jr. and wife, Gay of Pinetown; Michael R. Gibbs and wife, Leida of Fayetteville; Mandy Gibbs of Pantego and Millie Gibbs Kenney and husband David of Cleveland, TN; his sister, Joyce Williams of Belhaven, 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Earl Gibbs, Jr. and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM until the hour of the service on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at the home located at 644 East Main Street, Belhaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to West Belhaven Church of Christ Building Fund, 1080 W. Main Street, Belhaven, NC 27810 or The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Avenue, Oxford, NC 27565.
