Mr. John Scott Tyson, age 99, a former resident of Slatestone Road, Washington, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center of Washington.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by the Rev. Owen Arthur and Rev. Bill Mobley. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Steve Tyson, Lloyd Tyson, Randy Tyson, Jason Tyson, Charles Banks and John Waters.
Mr. Tyson was born in Hyde County on Jan. 9, 1912, son of the late Charles Russell Tyson and the late Sarah Sawyer Tyson. He married the former Beatrice Jones on Oct. 14, 1935, who preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 1990. Mr. Tyson was a retired farmer, owner and operator of Tyson salvage and a member of Memorial Free Will Baptist Church of Chocowinity.
Survivors include three daughters: Elizabeth T. Kornegay of Washington, Hazel T. Waters of Pinetown and Betty Beacham and her husband Mike of Washington; three sons: Russell Tyson and his wife Janice of Washington, Herman W. Tyson of Chocowinity and Earl Tyson of Washington; fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Tyson was preceded in death by two sons, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mr. Tyson’s son Herman.
