Robbery, assault being investigated

The Washington Police Department continues its investigation of a robbery and assault that occurred about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday at Days Inn.

A slim black man and heavyset black woman knocked on the door of Room 213, and when an occupant of the room opened its door, he was assaulted and robbed, according to the department. The assailants took a small amount of money from the three occupants of the room and fled on foot.

None of the injuries sustained by the man who was assaulted were life-threatening, according to the department.

“Police are following up on several leads that cannot be released at this time, and the investigation into this incident is ongoing,” reads a press release.

“As always, we encourage personal safety practices. Whenever you are in a strange place, always determine the identity of anyone knocking before opening the door,” reads the release. “When you drive to unfamiliar places, be aware of your surroundings and try to never travel alone. Always carry a cell phone to call for help or report suspicious activity.”
