Mr. Karl Wayne Milnes, 69, a resident of 510 Mouth Of The Creek Road, Chocowinity, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at his home.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Jesse Crisp will be held at a later date.

Mr. Milnes was born in Lewis County, Missouri on May 18, 1941, son of the late Stacy Boone Milnes and the late Gladys M. Lynch Milnes. He served his country in the U.S. Navy having enlisting in 1958 and served during the Korean and Vietnam War as a Navy SEAL.  He retired after twenty three years in 1977. On April 27, 1963, Mr. Milnes married the former Johanna Marie Domin who survives. Following his military career he worked as a superintendent with McDermott Company. His duties with McDermott allowed him to work in Antwerp, Belgium. Mr. Milnes was a member of Grimesland Masonic Lodge Chapter 0475 and New Bern Sudan Shrine, Moye Chapter 53 and Calvery Commandery # 25 Knights Templar of Washington.

Surviving along with Mr. Milnes’ beautiful wife, of forty-eight years, Johanna of the home is a son: Marc Milnes and his wife Jo Ann of El Dorado, Ark.; a daughter: Donna Wilkinson and her husband Wayne of Pinetown; two brothers: Melvin Milnes of Spokane, Washington and Michael Lynn Milnes of Iowa; two sisters: Donn Logsdon and Shirley Livingston both of Canton, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Austin Tate, Brandon Milnes, Cody Wilkinson, Amanda Jackson, Michael Milnes, Ashley Milnes and Caroline Jackson; two daughter-in-laws: Pamela Milnes and Tracey Jackson and her husband Michael along with several special friends. Mr. Milnes was preceded in death by a son: Karl W. Milnes, II and a granddaughter: Ashley Dawn Milnes.

The family will receive friends at Mr. Milnes’s home located at 510 Mouth Of The Creek Road, Chocowinity.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Sudan Temple Crippled Children’s Fund, P.O. Drawer 490, New Bern, NC 28563-0490.
