The right step

We’re glad Eagle’s Wings, the local food pantry, and its partners are bringing back Dancing with OUR Stars for a fourth year.
Last year’s dance-off proved this event hadn’t lost its luster, though any happening of this type can grow stale without innovation.
The people behind DWOS continue to find ways to engage and entertain their audience with unique dances tailored to fit specific personalities and occupations.
Dancing with OUR Stars showcases prominent members of this community and ordinary residents alike č some of whom are outstanding dancers.
The teams work with local choreographers to craft invariably amusing routines, and the winning aggregation is the one that raises the most money for Eagle’s Wings.
At its heart, DWOS is about helping Eagle’s Wings do what it does best: feed the hungry.
Last year, it was reported that in 2009 Eagle’s Wings fed more than 1,168 different families, or 3,300 people.
In the fall, Executive Director Sally Love said the pantry was on its way to feeding more people, thanks in part to increased purchasing power provided by the Food Bank of the Albemarle.
This week, Eagle’s Wings announced it would expand its commitment to sharing good fortune by giving a portion of the proceeds from DWOS to other nonprofit organizations that field dance teams.
Essentially, this means charities, theater groups or other entities could benefit from the good works and public exposure fostered by Eagle’s Wings.
We commend the people who make DWOS work for being inclusive enough to make Beaufort County’s No. 1 dance show a boon to more than its originators while ensuring that hungry people have enough to eat.
