Beaufort County Relay for Life teams are asked to register for the 2011 Relay for Life event by calling Lisa Alligood, event chairwoman, at 252-974-1444 or by visiting relayforlife.org/beaufortnc.
The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. April 29 to 1 p.m. April 30 at Washington High School’s football field and track. The event brings together former cancer patients, current cancer patients, those who lost loved ones to cancer and others wanting to help fight cancer and find a cure for it.
Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletics track, park or other gathering area with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their campsites during events.
“Relay For Life draws attention to the progress being made in the fight against cancer,” Alligood said. “Many participants are our family, friends and neighbors who have faced cancer themselves. Their involvement helps brings hope that, together, we can eliminate cancer as a major health problem.”
Information about how to form a team or become involved in Relay For Life is available at relayforlife.org/beaufortnc or by calling Alligood at 252-974-1444.
