When will the insanity and the craziness end?

To the Editor:
I may have to quit reading the Washington Daily News, because every time I do, my blood pressure goes up 50 or 100 points. I don’t need a stroke or heart attack.
I have been opposed to grant money for a long time. Why? Because it is spent on projects, that in my opinion, are not worth a darn. Examples:
1. A sidewalk from Market Street to the Airport. Ride the length of it and tell me how many people you see using it.
2. A sidewalk from near Asbury Church Road to the “Y.” Same thing; it’s hardly used. What was the purpose, maybe to help increase the value of property so the county can charge more taxes?
3. We have a water line installed from Aurora to Chocowinity. I’m told it is not connected to anything at either end. It was paid for with grant money. They had money left over from another project and rather than send it back, let’s use it up. Are we expecting a huge population explosion in Aurora or down Highway 33. Ha! Ha!
4. There’s a water tower installed around Bath. Not being used. Grant money leftover. Let’s install the tower to spend the money. Bath may need it later. If later was to ever occur it would probably cost more to get it up and running than it would be worth. The taxpayers are paying for it. Who cares?
5. A sewer line runs from the City of Washington, down River Road, to Carver Machine Works. Nobody can use it except Carver Machine.
6. A sewer line runs from the City of Washington, down Whichard’s Beach Road, to the old Whichard property. I live on this road. Only Fountain Powerboats is allowed to use it. Now, I don’t know about the rest of you taxpayers, but if Carver Machine and Fountain’s toilets won’t flush, let that be their problem. I don’t like paying to solve their problems. Nobody helps pay to solve mine.
7. And now we get to the one that really takes the cake. Seven businesses are going to receive $71,583.29 in grant money (taxpayers money) to make them more energy efficient. Projects like new air-conditioning, new lighting systems, new heat pumps, new insulation and others.
Think about this. You stand on your feet, eight hours a day, wherever you work, to earn your meager wages. The government takes part of your hard-earned money and it’s being spent for this. Every taxpayer should be outraged at the stupidity. I sure am. Nobody helps me or you with such matters. Paying for their improvements is not going to help me or your light bill one bit.
Where is all this going next? Do we start paying for their insurance, their taxes, buy them new vehicles?
When will the insanity and the craziness end?
Have we become a county of complete morons?
God help the younger generation.
