Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

It is absurd for anyone who is old enough to know how to use a telephone to call Sound Off not to know that voting in America is not a privilege, but a right.

I really don’t know which is worse – to have a job and wish you didn’t have it because you are being treated so badly or not to have a job and trying to find one in this economy.

I was awed by your headline story on Friday about our voter registration of nearly 31,000 changing by 12. What can you possibly do for an encore?

Editor’s note: The point of the article was not that 12 more people in Beaufort County registered to vote from March 5 to March 12. The point of the article was that a significant number of people are registering as unaffiliated voters.

I will learn Spanish if I move to Mexico, and I will learn to speak Chinese if I move to China.

What is the point of having a metal detector at the courthouse if there are no deputies standing there to watch the people? I came through it with other people, and we just looked at each other because no one was out there. It was 1:55 p.m., five minutes before court reconvened at 2 p.m.

If I knew they were going to spend $37,000 for the sign at the Veterans Park, I would not have donated any money toward it. Even if the economy was great, why would you spend that much money on a sign? Some people have more money than sense.

I agree with the caller about everyone learning to speak Spanish. Maybe the city can sponsor some classes for those people interested in learning Spanish.

I am constantly amazed by the ignorant people in Beaufort County. Most people in the world speak more than one language. Heaven forbid Beaufort County residents learn more than one language.
