Alice Webster

Alice Webster, age 106, a former resident of Waters Road, Pinetown, and a more recent resident of Ridgewood Manor, Washington, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Ridgewood Manor. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011, at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church, Pinetown, officiated by the Rev. Francis Gardner and the Rev. Harold Swinson. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Hillside Funeral Service.

Alice Webster

She was born on March 13, 1905, in the Beckwith community and was the daughter of the late James and Catherine Webster. She was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters.

Miss Webster was a graduate of Bath High School. She was a devout Christian and a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was also very active in the FWB denomination. She served as secretary of the Albemarle SS Convention for 24 years, secretary of the State League Convention for several years, secretary of the Albemarle Ladies Aux. Convention for 14 years and president for 2 years. Miss Alice Webster was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Albemarle Ladies Aux.

She worked for Singer Sewing Machine Co. for 7 years as a sewing instructor. Sewing was her passion and she worked at home for many years as a seamstress. Along with her sewing, she loved working in her yard and took great pride in growing her beautiful flowers. She has touched so many lives over the years with her love, her generosity and the Christian life she has led. She will be missed by her surviving nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends who loved her dearly.

Miss Alice Webster loved and supported Mount Olive College and in that spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the Alice Webster Endowment Fund, Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson Street, Mt. Olive, NC 28365.
