“April showers bring May flowers” the saying goes, and it has definitely been a wet month so far, and even a little chilly! But with the arrival of spring comes the return of our migrating birds, and now is the perfect time to stop by the library and maybe pick up a bird book or two to help you identify them as they zip by your windows.
You could choose something on planting trees, or learning how to “be green” to celebrate Earth Day this month. And since Easter is this month as well, why not pick up a book to learn more about the traditional aspects of the holiday, or a fun kid’s book all about the Easter Bunny.
April is a busy month, full of celebrations for all kinds of things. Brown Library is participating in a more “literary” holiday by celebrating National Poetry Month. To up the fun a little, we’re taking one special day of Poetry Month, called “Poem in Your Pocket Day,” and turning it into a month-long event. Throughout the month of April, you can find, scattered all through the library, canisters with pocket-sized poems, free for patrons to collect. From quirky kids’ rhymes, to some of the most famous poems around, there is sure to be a poem for everyone. Keep them in your pocket, or pass them on to friends to spread the joy of reading and poetry!
The spring cleaning continues! One of our most popular series of books from the publisher Avalon has all been pulled from adult fiction, and moved to its own shelf. Avalon books come in a variety of subjects, from romances to westerns, but all feature clean and wholesome content. If you’re a fan, please be sure to ask someone at the front desk where this new section is located.
Our Pajama Party Storytimes have been a huge success in the past, and if you’ve missed it, now’s your chance! Hosted by our own wonderful children’s librarian, Terry Rollins, parents are encouraged to bring out their 3- to 10-year-olds for bedtime stories, milk and cookies 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 21. Kids should feel free to come dressed in their pajamas and bring their favorite toys or blankets from home!
In celebration of Easter weekend, Brown Library will be closed April 22, in observance of Good Friday. It will be closed April 24 for Easter Sunday. The library will remain open April 23 during its usual hours. Its normal schedule resumes April 25.
Brown Library is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays; and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
