Garcia to discuss involuntary commitment

Dr. Paul Garcia, chief of psychiatry at Beaufort County Medical Center, will deliver a lecture, “Criteria for Involuntary Commitment,” at 7 p.m. May 2 in the fellowship hall at Washington’s First United Methodist Church.
The lecture is a local observance of Mental Health Month.
Garcia also serves as medical director of inpatient services at BCMC, Tideland Mental Health, the Ray G. Silverthorne Crisis Center, BCMC’s clinical training program and Pamlico Psychiatric Services. He is a board member of the N.C. Physical Therapy Examiners.
The lecture, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Beaufort County Mental Health Association, a volunteer advocacy organization fighting for those who suffer from mental illness and intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and those who have problems with substance abuse.
The church is located at 304 W. Second St.
