H.L. Sadler Jr.

Herbert Lee Sadler Jr., “H.L.”, 81, passed away early Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at his home in Fairfield, N.C. H.L. was born on March 21, 1930, in the Lake Landing Township of Hyde County to the late Herbert Lee Sadler Sr. and Katie Zerola Midyette Sadler. On Nov. 3, 1950, he married Alla Joyce Smith, who survives. He served his country in the Armed Forces in the Korean War and later had numerous occupations, which included farming, operating Sadler Texaco in Fairfield for 28 years and the latest as owner and operator of the Mattamuskeet Campground in Hyde County. His favorite pastime was working and fellowshipping with his numerous friends and family. H.L. was also preceded in death by his brother, Gervis Sadler.
He is survived by his brother, Otis Earl Sadler and two sisters, Edith Pugh and Betty Spencer, all of Hyde County. H.L. is also survived by his son, Donald Sadler and wife Lorraine of Williamston, N.C., and daughter, Tina Sadler Eakes and husband David of Fairfield, N.C. He had three grandchildren, Anita Sadler Roberson and husband Brent of Williamston, N.C., and Cruz and Payton Eakes of Fairfield, N.C. He also had two great-grandchildren Mary Spencer and Liam Roberson of Williamston, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, N.C., and other times at the home, 8675 Piney Woods Road, Fairfield, N.C. 27826. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at the Fairfield Christian Church with graveside service following at the Fairfield cemetery.
