Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

A waterfront hotel is badly needed in Washington. It would create many jobs and save the businesses on Main Street. The other hotels are not tourist destinations, but a hotel on the water is and would change the economic climate here in Washington.

Are Sound Off callers anonymous?

Editor’s note: Yes.

How can we expect the economy to improve with gas prices going up everyday? Remember gas companies started this thing years ago when they raised gas prices. They are selling less gas than ever and making more profits than ever. This is all man-made by the gas companies. The legislators need to do something about this.

I would love to see a small boutique-type hotel downtown. It would be a great boon for our economy. People would come for conferences and bring spouses and families who would shop and eat in our existing stores and restaurants. How can anyone think this is not a good thing?
