Adam Christopher Simpkins, 26, of 301 Washington St., Washington, was sentenced April 29 in United States District Court for possession of a firearm by a felon.
The presiding chief U.S. District Court judge sentenced Simpkins to 96 months imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release.
This case resulted from a July 2008 traffic stop by Washington police officers after which Simpkins fled on foot while dropping a 9 mm firearm.
Because of Simpkins’ extensive prior criminal record, the case was adopted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and later presented to a federal grand jury. Simpkins pleaded guilty to the charge prior to his sentencing in New Bern on April 29.
