Local business gives back

Chocowinity Middle School was named “Favorite School” as the result of a Facebook campaign sponsored by Pecheles Ford Toyota in Washington.

On May 10, Brian Pecheles, owner of the automobile dealership presented the school with a $1,000 check for winning the contest.

“Pecheles Ford Toyota and the Pecheles family has long history of giving to local schools, and we’re proud to continue that tradition with something new” in the form of this contest,” Pecheles said.

Pecheles dealership has embraced Facebook as a way to know its community better, and it was glad to utilize this tool to benefit the school system, he noted.

The campaign also included an opportunity for students to vote for their favorite teacher. They chose Lisa Adams, a career technical-education teacher at CMS. She received a $250 prize.

During the visit, Pecheles. along with Paul Kingman, director of marketing for Pecheles, and Don Phipps, superintendent of Beaufort County Schools, were taken on a tour of the school by Laura Whittington and Alyssa Peed, student government president and vice president, respectively. Whittington and Peed also passed along thank-you notes from the students to Pecheles.
