I am wondering if I read wrong in the paper that the citizens of Washington were getting a 5 percent break on their electric bills. If this is true, what about the county residents?
Editor’s note: The proposed 2011-2012 budget for Washington includes a 5-percent reduction in the residential electric rate for Washington Electric Utilities customers who live in the city. The proposed budget includes no such reduction for WEU customers outside the city.
The employees who ride the ferry to PotashCorp Aurora daily should form carpools and drive around if they put a $10-per-trip toll on that ferry. I wouldn’t pay it.
Apparently, people do not understand that the ferry is part of the North Carolina highway system. So, we, as taxpayers of North Carolina, pay for the ferry to be free. Why shouldn’t the people who own million-dollar homes and the out-of-state people who ride out of Ocracoke be made to pay instead of the workers who ride the ferry daily to get to and from work?
Great column by Bartow Houston.
