Walter Eddice Oakes Sr., 83, of 1855 N.C. Highway 94 North, Columbia, died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Chowan Hospital in Edenton. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Koo officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
