Mrs. Effie Mae Davenport Moore, 81, a resident of Grifton, N.C., died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by the Rev. Robert Ellis and Rev. Jason Currie. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Adrian Moore, Brandon Moore and Mitchell Moore and nephews: Jimmy Hardison, Alvin Davenport Jr. and Scott Sheppard.

Mrs. Moore was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 26, 1930, daughter of the late Samuel Hezakiah Davenport and the late Katie Bell Keech Davenport. She was a 1948 graduate of Pantego High School. Mrs. Moore married James Battle Moore, Sr. on Aug. 11, 1950, who preceded her in death on July 7, 2009. She was a homemaker and a member of Grifton First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons Randy Moore and his wife Elaine of Newnan, Ga., and James “Jimbo” Moore Jr. of Grifton; two brothers: Alvin Thomas Davenport Sr. of Grifton and Wayne Kersey Davenport of Pinetown; two sisters: Elva Rae Hardison of Grifton and Shirley Jean Sheppard of Bath; four grandchildren: Teir Bristol, Adrian Moore, Brandon Moore and Mitchell Moore and a great-grandchild: Liam Bristol. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by a son: Glenn Talmidge Moore and two brothers: Kiah Thurman Davenport and Elmer Earl Davenport.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
