Mrs. Nora Mae Smith Griffin, our beloved “Noni,” age 88, a resident of 1211 Summit Ave., Washington, died Monday, June 13, 2011 at Beaufort County Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. Charles M. Smith and Rev. Chris Leak.

Mrs. Griffin was born in Beaufort County on July 18, 1922 to the late Dan and Fannie Ecklin Smith. She married Walter Alligood who preceded her in death in 1970 and then married Ernest Griffin who preceded her in death in 1990.

She is survived by her adoring family which includes two daughters, Jane de Vos of Washington, Betty Harrington and husband Charles of Eden; one sister, Nancy Marks of Wilmington; two brothers, Bob Smith and wife Barbara of Raleigh, Charles M. Smith and wife Barbara of Washington, two step children, Diane Hackett and husband Jan of Reidsville, Mayo Griffin of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren, Katherine de Vos Devine and husband Robert of Durham, Charles Harrington, Jr. and fiancée Jenn Lande of Carrboro, Matt Harrington of Eden; two step grandchildren, Kimberly Nichols and husband Tony of Reidsville, Scott Hackett of Atlanta, GA; two step great grandchildren, Tori and Chelsea Nichols of Reidsville; nieces and nephews, Bryant Smith and wife Jeanie of Tarboro, Sara Marks Bason of Raleigh, Michael Smith and wife Phyllis of Statesville, Laura Smith Grimsley of Raleigh, Jay Smith and wife Holly Hollman of Falls Church, VA, Kathleen Smith of Greensboro; great nieces and nephews Alice Smith of Tarboro, Elizabeth Smith of Tarboro, Gloria Smith of Statesville, Hollman Smith of Falls Church, VA and Jameson Smith of Falls Church, VA.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church and other times at the home.
