Ben, a canine graduate of the New Leash on Life program at Craven County Correctional Institute, is ready for adoption.

Ben, a black/brown Labrador (mostly), can be found at the Betsy Bailey Nelson Animal Control Facility in Beaufort County.

Beaufort County Animal Control is a partner in the CCCI New Leash on Life program, which provides eight weeks of basic canine obedience training to prepare dogs for adoption. Inmates train the dogs.

Two other BCAC dogs, Max and Rascal, are in training at the prison. They graduate in July. Dogs selected for the program are spayed or neutered, examined and treated for any health issues, and given all required inoculations.

For more information about Ben, Max and Rascal, call the animal shelter at 252-946-4517 or visit it at 3931 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington.
