The Beaufort County Arts Council’s fourth-annual Juried Photography Exhibit opened Thursday with a reception at the Washington Civic Center.

The exhibit will run through Sept. 8.

Julie Mixon of Winterville chose more than 30 works from approximately 125 entries. More than 35 photographers submitted work from Washington to Wilmington.

According to BCAC Executive Director Joey Toler, the exhibit has shown continued growth and increased awareness in the four years it has existed.

“We are happy to be adding two additional awards this year, in the youth division,” said Toler.

The two new awards, sponsored by Kevin Scott Cutler, are the Ernest I. and Ethel Harding Cutler Award and the Jesse Lee and Corinne Mayo Smith Award.  Both are for outstanding work in the youth category. BCAC hopes to continue to grow the show with the inclusion of more special awards.

The exhibit will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. The civic center is located in the historic train depot on Gladden Street in downtown Washington.
