Dorothy Jones Swain, age 73, of Wilson and formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, N.C. The Rev. Sam Fuson will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

She was born in Washington, N.C., to parents Betty and Raymond Jones. She lived most of her life in Wilson surrounded by family and friends.

Ms. Swain is survived by a loving and extended family including two sons, Avalon Swain III and Michael Swain; two grandchildren, Victoria Swain and Joseph Swain; a sister, Elizabeth Kopliner; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Swain; two nieces, Karen Clevenger and Bette Laurie Shoulars, and a nephew, Jimmy Wrenn.

Arrangements are by Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
