Roland O. Tooley

Roland O’Neal Tooley, age 70, of 762 Lynnsburg Road, Scranton, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Born in Washington County, Feb. 9, 1941, he was the son of the late Henry O. and Ruth O’Neal Tooley. He was married to the former Elaine Swindell who survives. He was a member of Union Grove Church of Christ and was actively involved in Epworth United Methodist Church for 47 years.

An avid hunter and farmer, Roland’s true love was his family and baseball. He was a board member of North Carolina Farm Bureau since 1972, member of Scranton Volunteer Fire Department and was involved in multiple community and civic endeavors. He was well known for his chocolate fudge.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Epworth United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, R. Ray Tooley and wife Emily, Charles D. Tooley and wife Lisa, both of Scranton; two daughters, Kristy T. Lawrence and husband Brad of Scranton, Paula T. Spencer and husband Chad of Swan Quarter; eight grandchildren, Kasey R. Tooley, Ryan G. Tooley, Brandon C. Tooley, Brody D. Tooley, Eric B. Lawrence, Samantha N. Lawrence, Ashley E. Spencer, Bo H. Spencer; a brother, Henry O. Tooley Jr. of Plymouth; and one sister Margaret T. Eborn of Washington.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert G. Tooley, and a sister, Doris T. Dixon.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service on Saturday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.
