Nancey U. Norwood

Mrs. Nancey Uitermarkt Norwood, age 59, a resident of 151 Hilltop Lane, Washington, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at her home.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Washington, conducted by Rev. Lee Kinney.
Mrs. Norwood was born in Leighton, Iowa, on March 31, 1952.  She was the daughter of the late Clayton Uitermarkt and Dorothy VanOmmen Uitermarkt.  Mrs. Norwood graduated with honors from the University of Iowa.  She was a retired Social Worker with the Beaufort County Department of Social Services with over 30 years of service.  At the time of her retirement, Mrs. Norwood was Supervisor of Child Welfare and Adoptive Services.  She was a member of the Junior Crime Prevention Council and a mentor for “Young Lives.”
Nancey was an amazing wife, mother, sister, and friend who was passionate about helping others and improving the community. She worked tirelessly to better the lives of children, and she set an example of kindness and love for everyone whose life she touched.
Mrs. Norwood was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as an ordained Elder and Deacon and taught Sunday school.   Mrs. Norwood was the financial administrator for Carolina Wind Yachting Center and N&F Development Company.
On May 19, 1973, Mrs. Norwood married David Southerland Norwood, who survives.
Surviving with her husband are her son, David Julius “Jules” Norwood and his wife Arwen Parris of Greenville; her daughter, Kelsey Hart Norwood of New York, NY; her brothers, Verlan Uitermarkt and wife Marjean of New Sharon, Iowa, Ken Uitermarkt and wife Fern of Pella, Iowa, Melvin Uitermarkt and wife Shirley of Leighton, Iowa; and her sisters, Elinor Bogaard and husband Nelson of Pella, Iowa, Maxine Lanser of Littleton, Colorado, and Linda Grandia and husband John of Pella, Iowa.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall and other times at her home.
